Solid or engineered?
Solid hardwood can be refinished many times over decades and suits rooms over a wood or plywood subfloor. Engineered hardwood is more stable over concrete slabs and in humid conditions, common in Palm Beach County construction, and quality engineered wide-plank white oak has become the default in newer homes. We will recommend based on your subfloor and room.
Acclimation matters here
Wood moves with humidity. Every delivery sits in the house for several days before installation so it reaches equilibrium with the room, which is what prevents gaps in winter and cupping in summer.
Site-finished or prefinished
Site-finished floors are sanded flat after installation and finished as one surface, with no bevels between boards and any stain color you like. Prefinished boards are faster. We install both and will explain which suits the project.
Matching existing floors
Extending a floor into a new room, or replacing part of one, we source the same species and width, weave the new boards into the old, then sand and finish the whole area together.
Questions about new hardwood
Can hardwood go over a concrete slab?
Engineered hardwood can, glued down or floated over a moisture barrier. Solid hardwood needs a plywood subfloor or a sleeper system first.
How long does installation take?
A few days for a room, a week or more for a whole home, plus acclimation and finishing time. We give a written schedule with the estimate.
Do you remove the old floor?
Yes. Removal and disposal of carpet, tile or old wood is part of the estimate.
